Home Oxygen Therapy in Uganda: When It's Needed and How We Deliver It Safely

Some patients — those with chronic respiratory conditions, recovering from severe pneumonia or COVID-19, or living with heart failure — need supplemental oxygen to maintain safe blood oxygen levels. For many, going to a hospital daily simply isn't practical.

Teamwork Homecare supplies and manages oxygen concentrators and cylinders in the home, with our nurses trained to set up equipment correctly, monitor oxygen saturation levels, and respond quickly if a patient's condition changes.

Safety is our priority: every oxygen delivery is paired with proper equipment checks, clear instructions for the family, and ongoing nurse visits to make sure the therapy is working as it should.

Concentrator or cylinder?

A concentrator takes oxygen from the air and runs on electricity, so it suits patients who need oxygen for many hours a day. Cylinders store oxygen and are useful during power cuts or when moving around. Many families use a concentrator with a cylinder as back-up.

Using oxygen safely at home

  • Keep oxygen away from flames, cooking fires and cigarettes
  • Do not change the flow rate without medical advice
  • Keep cylinders upright and secured
  • Keep a back-up supply for power cuts
