Elderly Care at Home: Helping Aging Parents Live With Dignity

As parents and grandparents age, families in Uganda are increasingly choosing home-based elderly care over residential facilities — and for good reason. Staying in a familiar environment, surrounded by family and routine, has a measurable positive effect on an older person's mental and physical wellbeing.
Teamwork Homecare's elderly care nurses assist with the essentials — mobility support, bathing and grooming, medication reminders, meal preparation, and monitoring of blood pressure, sugar levels and other vitals — while also providing companionship that reduces the loneliness many seniors experience.
Every elderly care plan is tailored to the individual: some clients need a few hours of daily support, others require a live-in nurse. Whichever the case, our goal is the same — caring for those who once cared for us, with the comfort and respect they deserve.

Making the home safer
Simple changes reduce the risk of falls: remove loose mats, improve lighting along the route to the toilet at night, add grab rails in the bathroom, and keep frequently used items within easy reach. Our caregivers and physiotherapists can check the home and suggest what to change.
